ESG and Sustainability
Embedding environmental, social and governance responsibility into our resilience strategy.
Environmental, Social and Governance considerations are increasingly central to how organisations are assessed by clients, regulators, investors, employees and supply chains.
We think resilience and sustainability are the same argument made twice. An organisation that has genuinely prepared for disruption has already had to look at its environmental exposure, its treatment of people and the quality of its governance — because those are where long-term viability is won or lost.
Our Commitment
Horizonscan is committed to operating responsibly, transparently and sustainably.
As a 100% employee-owned business, strong governance and social responsibility are built into how we operate. Our people hold a direct stake in the business, a voice in its direction and a shared responsibility for the quality of the work we deliver.
We are signatories to the SME Climate Hub, committing to halve our greenhouse gas emissions before 2030 and reach net zero before 2050. We are also a CarbonNeutral® Company, and we keep reviewing how we work — travel, energy use, procurement, remote delivery — to reduce our footprint without reducing what clients get.

ESG, Climate Risk and Resilience
More organisations are asking us how climate risk, ESG and resilience connect.
The link is direct. Climate change, environmental disruption, shifting social expectations, governance failures and supply chain pressure all arrive as business continuity and crisis management problems eventually. We help organisations look at them the practical way: what each one would actually do to operations, people, suppliers and reputation.
ESG is not separate from resilience. It is part of understanding risk, making responsible decisions and preparing for what comes next.
Our ESG Commitments
The credentials and commitments we currently hold.
Environmental Responsibility
We recognise that climate change and environmental degradation present material risks to organisations, communities and society.
We actively work to understand, measure and reduce our own environmental impact. This includes reviewing travel, energy use, procurement decisions and the way we deliver consultancy support. Where appropriate, we use remote delivery methods to reduce unnecessary travel while maintaining effective client engagement.
We are a CarbonNeutral® Company and continue to support credible action on emissions reduction and environmental responsibility.
Our team also undertakes climate and environmental awareness training, helping strengthen our understanding of the issues that matter to our clients and the wider resilience profession.
Social Impact
Our people are central to the way Horizonscan operates.
As a Living Wage accredited employer, we are committed to fair pay and good working conditions. Our employee ownership model gives every team member a stake in the business and a voice in its future.
We invest in professional development, support flexible working and aim to create an inclusive working environment across our team and associate network.
We also contribute to the wider resilience community through knowledge sharing, mentoring, professional engagement and participation in industry bodies including the BCI and DRI International.
Resilience is not just about surviving disruption. It is about building an organisation that is responsible, adaptable and fit for the future.
Governance and Ethics
Good governance underpins everything we do.
Our employee ownership structure supports transparency, accountability and long-term thinking. We operate with integrity, independence and a commitment to delivering genuine value for our clients.
We maintain robust information security practices, including Cyber Essentials certification, and comply with data protection requirements. We also hold ourselves to high ethical standards in our client relationships, ensuring that our advice is practical, honest and focused on the client’s best interests.
