The Challenge
A new media venue in London was entering a period of growth and needed to establish strong business continuity and crisis management arrangements from the outset. As a startup operating in a high-profile, fast-moving media environment, the organisation faced a range of potential risks, including operational disruptions, venue incidents, technology failures, reputational exposure and rapid scaling challenges.
Working with its insurer, the organisation recognised that resilience needed to be embedded early, rather than retrofitted later. The business required a practical framework that would support operational continuity, protect stakeholders and enable effective decision-making during a crisis.
Our Approach
Horizonscan supported the organisation through an initial phase of business continuity and crisis management development. This included a Business Impact Analysis to identify critical activities, dependencies, recovery priorities and disruption scenarios.
A tailored Business Continuity Plan was then developed to provide a practical response framework for managing incidents and maintaining essential operations. To validate the plan, Horizonscan designed and delivered a Crisis Simulation Exercise aligned to the organisation’s operating environment and risk profile.
The initial work also identified opportunities for further maturity. Horizonscan prepared a detailed follow-up proposal offering several options for ongoing resilience development, including:
- Outsourced business continuity and crisis management support.
- Continuous improvement of business continuity arrangements.
- Further plan testing and exercising.
- Development towards ISO 22301 certification.
- Enhanced crisis governance and communication protocols.
Establishing continuity and crisis capability to support rapid growth with confidence
The Outcome
The organisation received targeted support to establish a strong resilience foundation during a crucial stage of growth. The Business Impact Analysis clarified operational priorities, while the Business Continuity Plan provided a structured approach for responding to disruption.
The Crisis Simulation Exercise helped validate the organisation’s preparedness, identify improvement areas and build confidence among key decision-makers. The follow-up roadmap gave the business clear options for maturing its resilience capability over time.
As a result, the media venue became better prepared to manage operational disruption, protect its reputation and scale with a stronger business continuity and crisis management framework in place.
